Application Process
After submitting an application, applicants are placed on the waiting list for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) or Public Housing based on applicable preferences, bedroom size (for Public Housing), and the date and time the application was received.
As applicants reach the top of the waiting list, the PHA will review their eligibility. This includes verifying household income, assets, family composition, and any claimed preferences to ensure the household meets HUD and PHA requirements.
The PHA may also review landlord references, eviction history, court records, and criminal background information in accordance with HUD regulations and PHA policy.
If the applicant is found eligible and assistance is available, the PHA will notify the applicant. Public Housing applicants may be offered an available unit, while HCVP applicants may receive a voucher to search for an eligible rental unit. For HCVP, the selected unit must meet program requirements before assistance can begin.
